An African Harrier Hawk eating a larva found in a tree. Swipe to see the hard work that was needed for this meal😋
This hawk is omnivorous and it eats fruits as well as insects and small vertebrates. Using the wings and feet and even climbing while hunting is typical for this wonderful bird.

A lappet-faces vulture fights with a white-backed vulture next to a gnu carcass.
The former species is one of the most powerful of the African vultures and is able to tear through the tough hides and muscles of large animals that the others cannot penetrate. That's why they play an important role in opening up a carcass for others to be able to eat.
Since October 2015 they are listed as an endagered species. Their ongoing decline is almost entirely due to human activity.

A huge male leopard relaxing in the early morning before heading towards the deeper bushland.
Leopards live a solitary lifestyle and have extensive territories. Male leopards defend typically a larger territory that covers 16-96 square kilometres and overlap with the territories of several females.

It's a good season for predators in the Serengeti right now since there are still a lot of young antelopes, gnus and zebras around which are more vulnerable and therefore easier to hunt. Watching this cute baby impala made us happy to see it save with its mother.

A herd of elephants in the Ngorongoro Crater: They were peacefully browsing next to the road. Groups like this consist of a matriarch (often the eldest cow) and other female elephants with their offspring. Bulls leave the group when they reach adulthood. They either live alone or form groups with other males.

The banded mongoose: These social animals live from the Sahel to Southern Africa in mixed-sex groups of 5-40 individuals. They sleep together at night and watch out for each other. The groups don't have strict hierarchy and aggression is low. Unlike other mongoose species, all femals can breed and after 60-70 days of gestation, they have 2-6 pups all around the same time.

Throwback to last October where we were able to hand over tents, GPS devices, binoculars, night vision goggles and fuel for anti-poaching patrols or the boundary road rehabilitation team. The event happened in the Mkungunero Game Reserve and was covered by the media.
We are a small NGO and have limited resources but we are very proud of every successful project and for the impact we are able to make due to our generous supporters and members🌍

This lioness was resting next to the road with her brother and they both seemed to be quite unbothered by the attention they were attracting.
Lions spend most of their time resting and can regularly be inactive for around 20 hours per day. Especially during the day, they sleep a lot and only after dusk their activity peaks usually.

🦩Love is in the air💕
Male flamingos in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area are trying to impress females with their strut parade and head-flagging movements. This is only one part of their large repertoire during the mating season: You can also observe them doing display flights, wing-salutes or false-feeding.
If they impress a female and proceed to mate, there is normally only one egg per couple. Chicks hatch after less than a month and have a grey plumage. The parents feed them with crop milk until their beak is fully developed after around 3 months.
